Every Place I've Ever Lived

This painting series, depicts every house, apartment or condo that the artist has ever lived in. A total of 35 homes in 45 years.
These paintings explore the unrelenting divergence of memories. Memories of a life lived through moments both happy and sad, banal and formative. What starts out as fact soon becomes corroded by memory into a dreamlike chaos, leaving only a sense of the actual dwelling. The work incorporates time as well as space – a fictional and experiential universe that only emerges bit by bit….if at all.
With influences as diverse as Sigmund Freud and Buckminster Fuller, her memories are expressed with both orderly and random layers of paint. By acknowledging the division between the realm of memory and the realm of experience, she creates intense personal moments by means of rules and omissions, acceptance and refusal, luring the viewer round and round in circles. As these temporal forms become distorted through repetition, distance and time, both the painter and the viewer are left with a reinvented reality.
